Our Services.

We offer a range of services tailored to the needs of individuals, families, schools, workplaces, or community spaces.

Speech Pathology

At AYBL, we help individuals with Autism, ADHD, and Intellectual Disability unlock their communicative potential. We specialise in designing and implementing communication supports that target functional goals that increase independence in everyday tasks. This could include (but is certainly not limited to) formulating a shopping list, locating items at the grocery store, catching public transport, following a visual sequence when showering, or ordering a drink at the local cafe.

We complete functional assessments that showcase skills and we work with individuals, their families, and those in their support network to build on these skills and work towards goals that are functional and meaningful. AYBL is a mobile clinic offering Speech Pathology services across Brisbane, within homes, schools, workplaces, and the community.

Visual Supports: Consultancy

We all use visual supports daily, from  the calendar in our phone to know what day it is and what we have on that day, shopping lists to remember what to buy, speed signs to know how fast we can drive, to our diaries and sticky notes with important reminders. Visual supports is an umbrella term for a wide range of resources that present information visually. In Speech Pathology, they include picture cards that can be passed between one another to make a request, a visual schedule that demonstrates what is happening that day or week, or a social story that teaches a new skill or forewarns about a new environment such as going on a school excursion.

It is well established in the literature that visual supports are an effective evidence-based practice for autistic individuals of all ages. They can support their understanding by providing routine, structure, and sequencing, and support their ability to express themselves by providing an alternative method to verbal speech, gestures, or sign language.

We offer a consultancy-based service where we complete an environmental assessment of your home, school, or other space and make suggestions about where visual supports could be beneficial in these environments. We design and manufacture individualised supports, and teach individuals, families, teachers, and other people in support networks when and how to best use the supports.

High-tech device Programming

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) refers to supports and strategies that replace or support verbal communication. They include visual supports, gestures, sign language, expressions, communication folders, choice boards, and high-tech speech generating apps.

Proloquo2Go is an award winning speech generating app that enables users to confidently communicate, express their needs and wants, and initiate interactions with others. It is fully customizable to suit individual needs, and can be programmed with pictures, symbols, and text.

AYBL can assess your suitability for Proloquo2Go, provide written evidence to use NDIS funding to purchase the assistive technology and personalise the app in a way that meets your current and future communicative needs. We offer parent and teacher training to empower you to program the app with new vocabulary.
